Yes, indeed, that is what appears to have happened. Who knows what happened when you got separated from Simon in town, but someone appears to have caught his ear, or his purse.
You entered Norn Fortress, and had a heavy fight with Black Circle troops, and an iron golem.
Eventually, you had to retreat under a heavy onslaught, and find somewhere to rest.
Regrouping and resting for a few hours, you reentered the fortress and made your way to the second level.
As you stood outside the door of what you suspected to be Kalaman’s room, the door suddenly opened, and you were set upon by waves of Black Circle troops. Not only did they attack you, but so did your so-called friend, Simon! You tried to retreat, only to find that the hall door through which you had made your approach was locked behind you. You have a guess who would have locked it, as Simon was the last one standing by it.
You awoke later to find that you were sharing a cell with Waley Krows. Your efforts to escape were fruitless. It appears that your captors were immensely powerful, as your cell was impregnable.
Waley did share some information to you. He did indeed possess, at one time, a tome concerning the Woodvale elves. The drow group led by Gathtaren, however, took the tome. This tome spoke of a way to reach Woodvale overland. It now was in the hands of the drow, however.
Waley also knew a bit about the dagger, Alantha Chath. He explained that someone, a surfacer, recovered the dagger from the drow of the Upperdark 900 years ago, fell in love with it, and could not part with it. This surfacer researched it, and instead of destroying it, he replaced a gem in the pommel. This tome spoke of this “helping” somehow, but Waley didn’t know much more than that.
Waley gave you a glimmer of hope. Waley had an assistant, Malock, who some time ago had an “accident,” went a bit mad, and stole some of Waley’s tomes. A tome taken by Malock described a “mystical” way to reach Woodvale. Waley thought that this tome, if you could get it, might help you reach Woodvale ahead of the drow. There, in the ruins of the lost elven civilization, perhaps you could find a clue to Alantha Chath.
Waley now believes that Malock is holed up in the Hall of the Never Forgotten, the crypt at Karom’s Fall. Karom’s Fall is located about 75 miles west of the Stillwood, the wood where Waley’s house is located. Everyone in the Land knows of Karom’s Fall. It is the hill upon which, 1006 years ago, in 0 AW, Karom made his last stand in the First Great War. There he was finally struck down, by the elf Yeblin Daoshin, wielding the magical sword Sentinel. Many famous heroes of Naeldor, including legions of paladins of Trianda, fell in that battle, never to rise again. It was their deeds that saved the Land for the generations to come.
It thus appears that your path will take you to that historic and holy place, if you can escape your prison. You have more pressing matters now, as Simon stands outside your door, having offered to free you in exchange for your promise not to turn on him.
