Some NWN2 campaign preplanning

Post by Venture » Tue Sep 05, 2006 10:03 am

The creative juices are officially flowing once again! I hope you are as excited as I am for the upcoming release of NWN2. From the press, it looks like there may be some hurdles to overcome when the game is released, but all in all things look promising for a game that lets us do much that we couldn't do with the original. So, start getting ready!

We're probably still a good ways off from starting the new campaign for NWN2 (release in October, and at least a month to get up to speed and build I would guess), but I've started some preplanning. As a disclaimer, I will say that all of the below information is subject to change once the game is released and I start building with the toolset. However, here is some info that you can get started with, if you are planning to play in the Naeldor NWN 2 campaign.

1. I anticipate that the campaign will start in a small village in the Duchy of Elik . I noticed that I never put the name of the kingdom on the campaign map, but it is a mountain kingdom. If you look on the map, find the three large yellow desert areas to the southeaast of the map that make a "V." Elik is the mountain area, the Darolith Peaks, in the middle of the V. I'll add the name when I get a chance.

2. We will start with all new characters.

3. You can start thinking up character concepts if you'd like, including a reason why you'd be in the small mountain village where the campaign will start. I haven't decided on the exact village yet. It is small enough that it probably won't be on the map anyway. Feel free to post any questions or comments in your private forum here, and I can work with you. Also, some of you may want to have your background intertwined with that of another player or players. That should be fine, so feel free to discuss it amongst yourselves.

4. If it helps you plan a character concept, the kernel of the plot idea in my head involves whisperings and rumors of a great prophet that has emerged in the mountains, traveling the peaks among the villages and keeps. Use it or don't use it in your character idea, as you see fit, and also remember that there is a chance it could change.

5. Because of some things I have going on, we will continue to play on Tuesdays.

6. As with the last campaign, this is an ongoing campaign, with no set finish. It will be built to take your actions into account, rather than having a premade plot (although there will be an overriding story to it, and various plots throughout the campaign).

7. What I've read in the official NWN2 forums on Bioware's site suggests that building will take much longer than previously. It thus remains to be seen how regularly we will be able to play. If building turns out to be very slow, we will either play in chunks (several weeks in a row, followed by time off) or perhaps every other week. No use thinking too much about this now, though, as it is all speculation.

Feel free to post any other thoughts you have on the upcoming campaign, or on NWN2, here.

first off, thanx for the info, V. of course I won't let NWN2 slip thru my hands and I already planned a new server for it.

I'm interested in a new Naeldor campaign and I really hope my schedule will allow me to participate further on. so far it looks good.

one thing I experienced in my own campaign is, that it is a real advantage for the whole roleplaying concept, if you slow down the passing of time in the engine. please think of it while building.

I will think about a new char and report back... :D

Looks like there will be a prerelease of the toolset:

Thus, I may be able to get a head start on things before the game is released. We will see.

I'm planning to get it and be part of a new campaign with our group. I still need to do some other changes also to get ready. If I recall NWN2 requires broadband/dsl for multiplayer...I still have dial up. So, I'll work on that in th enext month or two as well.

I just got my computer back online, graphics card died after being peed on by the cat

I'm definetly up for NWN2, but have they release system requirements for it? I'm assuming if they're anything close to old NWN I'm fine...at the moment I'm a smidgen away from being able to run Oblivion, which is...be quite V, I know you have it!...annoying, but a pretty hungry game.

In terms of character development, I want to take on a rogue or a sorc/wizard role. It's using the 3.5 ruleset, right?

No idea what sort of character I'd like to play, though, aside from that...mabey a necromancer...

Anyway...I'm definetly keen to play in an nwn2 campaign. If I can't run it, I'll buy a new computer, dammit.

Regarding the time-frame. Mabey we could all make a conscious effort to roleplay a lot, and explore a lot in one particular area (and mabey V could reward us for going to odd places) this way, we won't churn through all the areas that he has built, and thus could play more regularly.

That or he could make it incredibly sickeningly hard, and we'd restart a few times before we got used to it *grin*

hi all!! Well, I was so excited about nwn 2, but it seems my comp is unable to play it, so I'm getting a new one. Problem is, I still won't be able to play online it looks like. There is no dsl or cable available out where I live. My sister has it and she just lives 5 mins up the road...so frustrating cuz she couldn't care less. I'm thinking of getting a laptop though so I could take it over there to play online. However, it looks to be difficult to find laptops that can handle it. =(
